The Flood Gates Are Opening

Warblers are among the high points of spring migration.

These small birds of about three dozen species flit about the shrubbery checking for insects and offering us not only a bevy of colours – orange, red, blue, green and plenty of yellow – but a rich mixture of songs. There are warbles of course, trills, twitters and whistles, tickling the ear while our eyes are delighted.

On a good day our parks, rural areas and even our neighbourhoods come alive with birds like the Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Blue, Chestnut-sided and of course the Yellow – they can be found in so many areas. One of the most outstanding is the flame-throated Blackburnian Warbler. The male’s bright orange throat is stunning. Enjoy them while they are here. Many will be gone in a few days for breeding grounds further north.
