How the Weight-Activated Shroud Keeps Squirrels Out

Openings in the wire shroud normally align with the seed ports, giving birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight forces the shroud down, closing off access to the seed ports. Squirrels and many large birds are foiled this way without being harmed. The weight threshold that triggers the closing mechanism is adjustable.

Transparent seed tubes act like greenhouses, trapping solar energy, and traditional seed tube covers block that heated air from escaping.
