We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Retail Associate to join our team at Urban Nature Store. As a Retail Associate, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service, driving sales, maintaining a visually appealing store, and ensuring smooth Point of Sale (POS) operations. This position involves heavy lifting of 50lb bags, so physical strength and stamina are required.
Responsibilities:
- Provide outstanding customer service by greeting, assisting, and educating customers about our products, particularly in the field of wild birding and nature inspired gifts.
- Assist customers in making informed purchasing decisions, offering product recommendations, and sharing knowledge about different bird species and their needs.
- Handle sales transactions efficiently and accurately using the POS system, processing payments, issuing receipts, and maintaining proper cash handling procedures.
- Ensure the store is well-stocked, organized, and visually appealing by regularly replenishing merchandise, arranging displays, and following visual merchandising guidelines.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of our product offerings, including bird feed, feeders, birdhouses, binoculars, field guides, and other nature-themed gift items.
- Provide guidance and assistance to customers regarding the selection, use, and care of bird feeders, bird baths, and other wildlife products.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving shipments, conducting stock checks, and reporting/resolving any discrepancies.
- Maintain a clean and tidy store environment, including sweeping, dusting, and organizing shelves and display areas.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve sales goals and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including safety protocols, to ensure the well-being of customers, colleagues, and the store.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in retail sales and customer service, preferably in a nature-themed or specialty store.
- Knowledge of wild birding, bird species, and their habitats, as well as familiarity with related products such as feed, feeders, and birdhouses is a definite asset.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy bags weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers and provide exceptional service.
- Proven sales and merchandising abilities, with the ability to drive sales and meet targets.
- Experience with POS systems and cash handling procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain a visually appealing store environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as per the store's schedule.
