You can buy good quality bird seed online from a specialty bird store that lists every ingredient, says where and how the seed is bagged, and shows real customer reviews on each product page. In Canada, Urban Nature Store sells fresh bird seed online, with delivery anywhere in the country and free shipping on most orders over $125. Larger bags can be ordered online and picked up at any of its ten Ontario stores.
How Can You Tell If Bird Seed Is Good Quality From a Product Page?
A good bird seed product page answers three questions before you buy: what is in the bag, where and how it was packed, and what other buyers thought of it. When a page leaves any of those out, there's no way to judge the seed until it arrives.
Urban Nature Store's seed pages show all three. The Red Carpet Mix page, for example, lists its five ingredients by name: black oil sunflower, sunflower hearts, safflower, peanut halves and gray-striped sunflower. Each of these seed pages also states that the seed is packaged in Canada using domestic and imported ingredients, with 50 lb bags as the exception. Ratings come with a review count, which matters more than the score alone: Sunflower Hearts averaged 4.96 out of 5 across 520 reviews, and Red Carpet Mix 4.91 across 191.
Which Bird Seed Bag Sizes Can Be Shipped to Your Door?
Smaller bags of each seed ship anywhere in Canada, while the larger bags are sold for store pickup only. The table shows the split for four popular seeds.

If you feed a lot of birds and live near one of the stores, the guide to ordering bulk birdseed online or picking it up in store compares the two options. The full range of seeds and mixes is in the fresh wild bird seed collection.
What Happens If the Seed You Want Is Backordered?
A backordered home delivery size still takes orders, and it ships as soon as it's back in stock. In late October 2026, for example, the 6 lb Black Oil Sunflower and 4 lb Nyjer delivery bags were both backordered on Urban Nature Store's site while the larger pickup sizes were still available, and both were back in stock for delivery by November 4.
If you can't wait, two options usually work. You can switch to a similar seed that has a delivery size in stock, or, if you live near a store, order a pickup size online and collect it there. Product pages note that pickup is still available at a store showing zero stock when the warehouse has the item.
Does Urban Nature Store Ship Bird Seed Across Canada?
Yes. Urban Nature Store ships its seed anywhere in Canada, and most orders over $125 ship free. A single delivery bag costs far less than that (Black Oil Sunflower starts at $10.95), so combining seed with suet, a feeder or other supplies is the simplest way to qualify.
Can You Save Money on Repeat Seed Orders?
Yes. Urban Nature Store's free Rewards Program gives you the 11th bag of seed free after you buy 10, with no points to track, and members earn 4% back in rebate dollars on non-seed purchases. Sign-up happens in store, so ask staff on your next visit whether your online seed orders count toward the free bag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is bird seed bagged fresh in the store?
Yes. Urban Nature Store stores bag seed on site in sizes up to 50 lb, and the Red Carpet Mix page says its smaller bag sizes are bagged fresh in store.
Will Nyjer seed bought online sprout under the feeder?
Usually not. Urban Nature Store's Nyjer page explains that Nyjer normally refers to non-germinating thistle seed, meaning seed that won't sprout into plants.
