It’s New Year’s Day, which means resolutions are everywhere. Eat cleaner. Exercise more. Be more productive. Become a better version of yourself by Tuesday.
The birds outside my window didn’t get the memo.
The Chickadees started the year by eating first, singing loudly, and showing absolutely no concern for the temperature. The Cardinals stayed close together, unbothered by the calendar. The Juncos focused entirely on not disappearing into the snow.
Watching them, it occurred to me that birds don’t resolve to do more. They resolve to do what matters.
So this year, I’m taking my cue from them. My only resolution is to notice more—more small moments, more quiet resilience, and more life happening just beyond the glass.
If the birds can carry on with confidence in January, maybe we can too.
