By Paul Oliver, Founder – Urban Nature Store
Hello friends and fellow bird lovers,
Well, here we are — the very first post in what I hope will become a cozy little corner of the Urban Nature Store website: “Chirps & Thoughts by Paul.”
Now, what exactly is this space? Think of it as the digital equivalent of chatting over the counter with a warm cup of coffee in hand — or maybe out by the feeder, watching a chickadee scold us for being late with the sunflower seed.

I started Urban Nature Store because I believe that connecting with nature — even just outside your kitchen window — makes life richer, calmer, and a whole lot more fun. Over the years, I’ve met thousands of folks who agree: watching wild birds isn’t just a hobby… it’s therapy with feathers.
Here in this section, I’ll be sharing a mix of things:
- My personal birding adventures (and occasional misadventures).
- Tips for making your backyard a haven for wildlife.
- Reflections on the changing seasons.
- And maybe the odd story about coffee, cookies, and the squirrels who keep trying to outsmart me.
As we head into the colder months, I’m grateful for everyone who’s helped grow our little bird- loving community — from long-time customers to new backyard birders just getting started.
So, welcome. Pull up a perch, stay a while, and let’s enjoy the view together.
Until next time,
– Paul
“The more I watch birds, the more I realize they’re not so different from us — just with better views and fewer meetings.”
